How he was acquired: Fingers signed a five-year contract with the Padres on Dec. 14, 1976.
How he was lost: The Padres traded Fingers, Gene Tenace, Bob Shirley and Bob Green to the Cardinals for Terry Kennedy, Steve Swisher, Mike Phillips, John Littlefield, John Urrea, Kim Seaman and Al Olmsted on Dec. 8, 1980. Four days later, the Cardinals traded Fingers, Ted Simmons and Pete Vuckovich to the Brewers for Larry Sorensen, Sixto Lezcano, David Green and Dave LaPoint.
